Renewing your license every 3 years

If you are a non-master plumber, you will need to pass a written examination. You will also need to prove that you have four years of experience in building trades. In addition, you must show proof that you have completed a backflow prevention device training course. If you are a master plumber, you will need to have been licensed for at least five years before you can apply for a renewal. Continuing professional education (CPE) requirements
Continuing professional education (CPE) requirements for master plumber license in Texas are similar to those of journeyman plumbers. Plumbers are required to take at least six hours of CPE every two years to maintain their licenses. There are many classes and programs available to train plumbers in Texas.
In addition to CPE, licensees may be required to take training courses prior to taking exams. Licensees who are unable to attend classes may take a correspondence course. However, hours earned in professional ethics in excess of four hours do not count toward the required hours for different levels of licensing.
Licensees may also carry forward up to 76 hours of CPE towards the next license renewal. The requirements are not as stringent as they are for other licensees.
The most important CPE requirement is to maintain your license. You must renew your license on or before the expiration date. The Board recommends that you request an Employer’s Certification at least once a year. This is a certification that certifies that you have worked for a qualified employer and have satisfied the eligibility requirements.
Another requirement is completing a TSBPE approved Multi-purpose Residential Fire Protection Sprinkler Specialist endorsement course. This course is also a good indication of proficiency to potential clients. You will need to have a valid RME-General or RME-Dwelling license to take this class.
Expiration dates
Until September of this year, the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) was the state agency tasked with issuing plumbing licenses. They generated $5.2 million in revenue in 2017, and employed dozens of people. However, Governor Greg Abbott has taken advantage of his powers as Governor and issued an executive order to extend the agency’s lifespan until May 31, 2021.
In the meantime, the Texas legislature has a chance to address the issue in the next session. If the legislature does not pass legislation by May 31, 2019, then plumbing regulation will return to Texas’ municipalities.
One of the most notable changes to plumbing regulation is the elimination of the state’s plumbing code. This has been referred to as the “plain talk” initiative. During this four-year rule review, the agency identified several changes that needed to be addressed.
As of March, the state plumbing agency had 28 employees. The agency is also responsible for issuing licenses and registering contractors. In order to register a plumbing contractor, they must meet a number of qualifications.
The state also provides a number of tools to help plumbers find licensing information. These tools include an interactive map that shows the locations of licensed plumbers, and an online database that can be used to check the status of a license or search for information by name or license number.
